The laboratory of Biochemical and Environmental Toxicology, ICBM, Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile is a research laboratory that has been investigating for several years the problem of air pollution( indoor and outdoors) in Santiago and its effects on human health. The laboratory is presently supported by grants from: Fondecyt, European Community (INCO), Fundacion Minera La Escondida and it is collaborating with laboratories from: Mexico, England, Germany, France and United States.
In addition the laboratory is the Chilean Phocal Point of CamBiotec a Canadian- Latin American initiative promoting the safe and effective use of Agricultural and Environmental Biotechnology . The program undertook and analysis of the current status of Biotechnology in the Region, is contributing to capacity building , and is doing studies about biosecurity regulations and public perception of biotechnology, including Genetic Modified Organisms (GMOs).
